Terrifying! \o/ lady_krysis and kate have been amazing about making this challenge as welcoming and open and inclusive and \o/-inducing as possible, and everyone is being supportive of everyone and it's all one big group hug. *builds a little nest out of Losers fandom and settles in* They're structuring the sign-ups as teams right from the start (as opposed to assigning artists later) and you can do whatever you want as your bang, not just fic. Also, cheerleaders! *\o/* Anyway, here's my sign-up, I'm very nervous and excited.

- The White People ~Once Upon a Time~ season finale happened and it was pretty amazing. ( Spoiler: Mr. Gold finally goes away haha I wish )

- Meanwhile, Scandal is getting better? Hello party people!

Okay so I went through my posts and realized that it's been uh...two months since my last post.

Whups.

Those of you that have been paying attention: this the other half of mumblemutter.

It's great to have a co-journaller (other than that she's the best co-journaller in the world and no you can't have her) because you can disappear and no-one notices.

Nothing eventful has happened though, so you didn't miss much of my non-life except that I've been sick a lot and...yeah.

Anyway! Remix has happened, and someone wrote the most brilliant remix of So I keep it low, keep a secret code, which turns the entire original story on its head (amazing! how even!), and it's deadly and subtle, just the way I like it, and you know I think the message in the end of both stories is: Roque always comes back for Clay, which is the truth in every possible universe there is. So anyway:

I linked co-journaller to the Who Is It video the other day (oh, MJ) and we basked in nostalgia for a while, and then somehow this turned into a First Class/Prometheus/this video fusion crossover, BECAUSE WHY NOT. The only problem is that cm's E key is broken right now (OF ALL THE LETTERS), so writing has been a bit of a challenge.

We finally watched ~Shame~, about four months after having been utterly spoiled for pretty much the entire damn thing, and what with one thing or another (i.e. having to pause three times and my phone ringing during the climax) it wasn't really the devastating, oh-god-what-just-happened experience I might have gotten from the big screen. Or, you know, unspoiled. (God, I hate Tumblr sometimes.) Anyway, ( thoughts: )

I finally went to see a doctor, for the first time in... a long, long time. The cold is pretty much entirely gone, my lungs sound fine, blood pressure is a bit high, but not high enough to explain the frequent nosebleeds, and apparently pertussis is still a thing that's making the rounds! So they took some blood to test for that, but clearly it's not pertussis, come on. I also got something to suppress the coughing at night and some ~nose oil~ that smells like oranges and things should be fine one way or another.

Now to make that overdue dentist appointment.

Teen Wolf fandom has been so good to me! So good! It's been giving me aaaaaall the comfort fic, in which Derek and Stiles are stupid boys in love and there's happy ends and make-outs and Stiles's internal monologue is the best, and then suddenly random baby fic. I've been reading so much I completely lost track of what happens in what fic, but that's all right, they're stupid boys in love and everything is happy fun times! Except when it's dub-con drama or whatever, but the point stands. ILU TEEN WOLF FANDOM. Never stop!

Apparently what you have to do to get hits in First Class fandom is post a work tagged "Graphic Depictions Of Violence, Rape/Non-Con, Underage, Werewolves, Incest, Knotting, Minor Character Death, Blood, Crying" and they will come. (Um.) If you want kudos though, write some pointless fluff about nothing! Or, I remain fascinated by our AO3 stats. The latest two fics haven't even been posted anywhere! That's just people wandering in from the tag or whatever. Big fandoms! Amazing!

Anyway, a few quick things to get them out of the way:

- Oh my god why is The Hunger Games such a popular franchise and why do I feel so irrationally distraught by its premise, IT'S EVERYWHERE THESE DAYS. I've watched more distressing movies, surely, but something about forcing teenagers to kill each other for sport, um, is really upsetting to me, apparently. I've been trying to scroll past the gif sets on Tumblr and just focus on J-Law being adorably ~quirky, but man, it's really... everywhere these days. Um. Go Katniss!

- Shows I'm consuming these days, a round-up: Community, Grimm, Once Upon a Time, Psych, The Daily Show. Also The Voice and American Idol, mostly. And that's it. I sometimes have thoughts about them and then I get distracted and never post them, but. ROSALEEEEE. Oh my god her beautiful little Fuchsbau face, I love her so much! I hope she'll stay foreverrrrrr. *clutch*

- Ahem. Early last year I started poking at some AO3 code (with a great deal of help) to get rid of the "users show" and "works index" shenanigans where you'd expect to see the actual user or fandom or whatnot in the page title. (I... had a lot of feelings about this.) Many moons later, whups, this code has been deployed to the ~test archive~ and found to be working! The whole shebang is still not entirely done, but I'm pretty proud of it so far (even though a lot of it was achieved through trial and error or, ahem, gently suggested by others). It should be deployed by the end of April-ish! /excited

Inspired by a conversation in AO3 Support chat, I started fiddling around with a bookmarklet that would take a fandom or character or prompt and return a specific subset of works for that prompt. (Here, "fiddling around with" means: stole wholesale from another search bookmarklet and plopped in AO3 search queries until something stuck.) It lets you highlight a word on a page before clicking or, if nothing is highlighted, will pop up a little prompt window and ask for a word. Then it will give you porn.

So I managed to browbeat co-journaller into buying me a Marvel digital subscription, which I could not buy for myself BECAUSE OF REASONS and it is working out exceeelllently so far. I have a lot of Feelings about Charles Xavier and Magneto and Emma Frost and Scott Summers (although with Cyclops it's more of me being deeply satisfied that the opinion I took of him from the movies that he is humorless bore-bag is confirmed by the comics, in which he is in fact A HUMORLESS BORE-BAG. What Jean Grey and Emma see in him I don't know. Ugh, Cyclops go away. Also you don't get to tell Charles he's not welcome at the school anymore IT'S HIS SCHOOL IT SAYS THAT ON THE SIGNBOARD RIGHT THERE. W/E W/E CHARLES ERIK STILL LOVES YOU. Okay that's because you have a blind spot when it comes to him in ALL CANONS EVERYWHERE CHARLES IT'S NOT LOVE IF HE TORTURES YOU/TRIES TO HAVE YOU KILLED OKAY NO THAT'S A LIE YOU KNOW THE TRUTH HE LOOOVES YOU.)

Anyway comics! Marvel! IF YOU'RE LOSING MONEY I KNOW WHY. You should not need a detailed map to get into something, okay. I mean, I wanna say "yay for continuity" but let's face it you guys can't even get that shit right, so what's the point of just referencing stuff here and there for no reason and then like. It's not even that. For the ~fans? I am clearly not your target demographic, is the problem. Because I need simple instructions and I don't want to go treasure hunting in order to make sense of things. Tell me there are five thousand comics and then I should read comics one to five thousand in that order AND I WILL READ IT. Don't tell me there's five different comics running parallel to one another and then they cross over on occasion and oh sometimes they even cross over in an entirely different SERIES so I guess you'll have to read that Avengers comic now won't you wait you don't know who the Avengers are? TOUGH SHIT WE DON'T CARE.

ALSO SOMETIMES I JUST WANT TO READ ABOUT CHARLES AND ERIK'S BIG GAY LOVE AFFAIR WHY DO I HAVE TO READ TWO HUNDRED STORIES ABOUT CYCLOPS THE BORE-BAG JUST TO GET SOME CHARLES/ERIK INTERACTION. WHY, MARVEL. WHY.

Rewatched the first nine episodes of Once Upon a Time while N. was here and managed to work myself into a bit of a state over Sheriff Graham again. There's a handful of Emma/Graham fics on the AO3, some of them fix-its, but they didn't quite hit the spot. I remain very sad.

Speaking of shows about vaguely German-ish fairytales (because clearly there can never be enough!), we gave Grimm another try after someone on the DW network said it gets much better after the first half-dozen episodes. Which is true! Who would have thought. Mostly, though, they started giving more screentime to Steve's evil boyfriend from Warehouse 13 Sasha Roiz, and we are weak in the face of Sasha Roiz. HE IS SO HOT YOU GUYS. SO TALL AND SO HOT. AND ( SPOILERS FOR 1x12! ) PLEASE CONTINUE IN THIS VEIN, EVERYONE. The lighting on this show, however, remains entirely shite. Like, it's not even moody or apropos or whatever, it's just fucking dark.

And just because three things make a post, my god we actually made it through all thirteen episodes of American Idol so far, AND THE ACTUAL SHOW HASN'T EVEN ACTUALLY STARTED YET. Dear God, why. However, Phil/Heejun, amirite? AMIRITE YOU GUYS?

So I have been reading some of the x-men comics, mostly ones written post 2000 because the earlier ones give me a headache. Both the visual style of the books themselves and the dialogue. Must everything be a speech, you guys? Must it really?

Anyway hilar I think I just randomly downloaded shit where Erik is dead (don't worry, he comes back) and then Charles...is there? Idk his purpose seems to be like, get possessed by the twin he tried to kill in-utero and then his alien wife leaves him because of it and then in between he foils Pakistani terrorists (who are shocked! That he speaks Pakistani. As one would be, I imagine. I wonder if Pakistani sounds anything like Urdu.)

Clearly decades of territorial/ideological disputes can be easily solved by Charles putting everyone in touch with their ~feelings and realizing all you need is love. But then of course he goes back to the school and there is a revolt and some kid puts Magneto's helmet on him (!!!) and makes him cry. They basically write their own fanfic it's fantastic.

Anyway anyway I kind of love him he thinks the solution to low self esteem is the erasure of bad childhood memories - oh Charles, I bet it really is that easy isn't it?

I love him, I don't know. He tries?

Also love: Emma Frost and Jean Grey, although why either one of them is even remotely interested in Scott Summers is beyond me. Urgh Scott be more boring, please.

The biggest problem I'm having with the comics do far (other than...the obvious race/gender issues) is, again, Erik being dead in all the arcs I choose to pick up. I mean you know how I feel about Erik. It's like Erriiiiiikk. And then everyone else um I DON'T KNOW YOUR FACE ERIK.

A (on my kinks and writing tendencies): it's half fannish spite and half crying fetish.

A couple of drive by recs in lieu of an actual post: The only thing left worth stealing, Clay/Roque, Roque/Aisha (!!!) and it's a time loop crossover with Once upon a time in Mexico and it is so good omg what. Also for the true believer which has Clay and Roque and Jensen and the characters are just sharp and subtle and ugh.

Also I went to see A moving masterpiece with my racist cousin today which was pretty cool despite us having to wait in line for three hours just to get in (I told my cousin, maybe this queue is the moving masterpiece and when you reach the end of it they will give you a thank you note for participating in the living artwork that is The Singaporean In Queue. We were perhaps a little delirious from being in line for so long.)

My racist cousin's initial response when I asked her to go with me: So you want to see how the maggots used to live, huh?

What did the Chinese ever do to you, racist cousin, except contribute to three-quarters of your gene pool.

I mean I'm one of those horrible darkies over here, I might actually have legitimate beef against the Singaporean Chinese majority. And yet I am not as hateful as you!

I've been weird & awkward about fic after being vaguely ~triggered by some pairing and generally being a big ball of emotions these days, but thinking about prompts for the Porn Battle has been fun! And distracting! So far I've come up with these random bits of nonsense:

For fandom_stocking, lionessvalenti wrote us a bittersweet little H.G./Myka piece called One Beautiful Thing, and lady_krysis gifted us with an Alice/Luther 2x02 episode tag, In There You Shine, that is so very Alice and so very lovely and makes me miss the show already.

Also, some days ago sharpestscalpel asked her flist for porn prompts and someone else made an innocent little comment involving fruit and I thought it would be a good idea to reply to this person and go, haha I misread that as watersports, yay watersports! you know, as one does? Um. And then sharpestscalpel wrote me the appropriately titled An Efficient Bodily Process out of nowhere, which is desperation play and Erik being sexily commanding, which um, works for me. \o/

Lastly, but not at all leastly, the most gracious pearl_o took a worryingly specific prompt of mine and turned it into the most happy-making Erik/lady!Charles werewolf porn you could imagine, if you were to imagine such things: With the Red Roses, which I just found out references a Meat Loaf song. So the last of my interpiggies passed away on Monday. He was sick for over two years, and I knew it was coming the past couple of weeks, but I'm still wrecked. Stupid pig and his stupid little face. I loved him so much. And then there's some crap about how his death symbolizes in a way the death of my marriage because he was the first pet we'd bought together and all that, but w/e w/e. He was lovely and scared of everything and everyone adored him.

But anyway, because life is great sometimes, and people are awesome, I got two!! fics this week that are pretty much specifically geared to me (as in holy shit). pearl_o wrote me, earlier in the week, wrote give me your stars to hold, a story in which Charles and Erik are brothers and they are in love (handjobs! hickeys! ERIK IS FIFTEEN!). And then introductory wrote never let me go, a story in which Charles and Erik are brothers and they are in love (roleplay! chair sex! ERIK IS FIFTEEN!).
